Mist Me: Me Mist Swimming Pool, Sofia, 2024

Mist Me: Me Mist is a series of slide photographs featuring Maya Shopova, one of the co-curators from Off-Site, holding up the Peperuda costume at various water bodies and significant sites around Sofia. This work reconnects my project Two Stones and Heaven is a Fountain in the Garden of your Veins to the city where the exhibition was held, drawing attention to the relationship between personal history, collective memory, water, landscape, and urban spaces. The slides create a dialogue between the ritual's themes and the contemporary urban environment by placing the Peperuda costume—symbolizing fertility, ritual, and wetness—in different parts of Sofia. Each location reflects the tension between nature and urbanization while also invoking water's spiritual and symbolic role within both spaces. Through these images, the Peperuda costume becomes a bridge, connecting the presence of water and fertility, and the body of Maya to the modern urban context.
