Roll, Jordan, Roll (publication)Cairo, 2026 Roll, Jordan, Roll: Stereographic River, Colonial Hydropolitics, opens with a 1913 stereograph of women pilgrims wading through the Jordan's mud, twin images fused into one three-dimensional illusion that let distant audiences possess the river without setting foot on it. Forthcoming online in the Avery Review's October 2026 issue, the essay exists here as a separate printed object: an English-language edition, with an Arabic printing planned, designed as a companion volume to my photography and poetry publication Blue-Black Liver, also designed by Engy Aly. The essay contextualizes the photographs in Blue-Black Liver historically and politically.
