Screen House Kuwait City, 2013
Located by the seafront on the outskirts of Kuwait City, the concept design for this house in the neighborhood of Fnaitees reinterprets the traditional Islamic screen in a contemporary style. Constructed with bricks in alternating patterns, this brick screen serves two primary purposes: protection from the sun and enhanced privacy. It wraps around the house like a second skin, with perforations allowing varying degrees of light to filter through. Window openings of various sizes, alignments, and recessed areas create a dynamic visual effect.

Inside, the house is designed to support a large family, ensuring each member can cohabit while maintaining privacy and easy access. Large windows, light wells, and courtyards enhance natural light and ventilation throughout the structure. Privacy is prioritized with dedicated living areas and amenities for household help, allowing residents and staff to coexist comfortably. Openings are placed at various heights and sizes based on the need for light in each room, balancing illumination with protection from unwanted exposure. An aromatic garden with surrounding vegetation acts as a natural extension of this second skin, softening the brick's harshness and adding a natural element to the design.
